Grouped performance data
Reference BTU, vent, and clearance bands by product family
Estimators and mechanical engineers use these grouped rows when comparing Valor gas fireplaces, electric units, and inserts against chase size and fuel availability. Full filterable sheets live on the Specs page.
| Input BTU/hr | 18,000 – 40,000 BTU/hr (natural gas / propane kits) |
|---|---|
| Vent type | Direct-vent coaxial, horizontal or vertical termination |
| Clearance to combustibles | Listed mantel and side clearances per CSA / ANSI Z21.88 |
| Fire resistance context | Chase framing follows listed enclosure notes; not a rated wall assembly by itself |
| Heat output | Up to ~5,000 BTU/hr equivalent (1,500 W class heaters) |
|---|---|
| Power | 120 V dedicated or shared circuit per local electrical code |
| VOC emissions | No combustion VOC; finish coatings meet low-VOC interior paint schedules |
| Service life expectancy | LED media assemblies typically 20,000+ hour design life |
| Wind load rating context | Termination caps coordinated with roofing assembly wind rating (PSF / MPH) |
|---|---|
| Thermal bridging | Chase insulation details to limit thermal bridging at roof/wall junctions |
| Moisture vapor transmission | Flashing and underlayment transitions documented for wet climates |

BTU tables that match the packing list
Input and output BTU/hr bands are published by fuel type so hospitality lounges and production homes stop arguing from incomplete cut sheets. When green-building premiums conflict with budget reality, we document code-compliant standard assemblies alongside optional higher-efficiency paths.
Clearances written for field crews
Mantel depths, side clearances, and hearth extensions follow listed documentation. Prefabricated chase kits versus field-built surrounds pull in different directions—vent path still decides what fits. Dimensional stability of surrounds matters when heat cycles meet millwork.
Envelope notes for roofing trades
Vertical terminations need moisture vapor transmission and wind load rating coordination with the roofing assembly. Valor callouts help roofing crews manage thermal bridging at chase walls without inventing details on site. ASTM E108 Class A context belongs to the roofing assembly schedule; the fireplace listing alone does not create a rated roof. Since 2018, Roofing Materials interface packets have listed flashing checkpoints so freeze-thaw climates stop inventing first-winter patches.
Milestones behind the published tables
From 1984 field clearance matrices through 2004 insert framing sheets, 2012 electric 1,500 W media rows, and 2018–2023 roof chase packets, Valor kept one rule: publish input BTU/hr, vent type, and clearances before finishes lock. Typical mid-size gas bands stay 18,000–40,000 BTU/hr; electric paths disclose ~5,000 BTU/hr equivalent heat and 20,000+ hour LED design life. Limits stay visible—electric is not whole-room gas duty; listings do not replace wall fire resistance rating or STC schedules.
